Passive Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Injector - Splitter Mid-Span Kit with 5.5 mm x 2.5 mm DC Size Connectors
AIR802® part number POEPASS-02 is a passive PoE injector/splitter kit with 5.5 x 2.5 mm size DC connectors.
Product Description - Model POEPASS-02
AIR802® has developed passive Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) kits or sets with various size DC connectors. This device provides a low cost solution for delivering power over the network cable. This scheme allows power to be carried on 10/100 networks over the spare, unused pairs of a CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 Ethernet network cable. The source power could be the power supply that came with the wireless access point, IP video surveillance camera, etc. or it might be another power supply.
This PoE set contains a very cost effective injector and breakout or splitter component.
- The injector inserts the DC voltage at the source location into the 5.5mm x 2.5mm injector plug.
- The DC voltage is then carried over the spare pairs of the 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T network cable.
- The breakout or splitter extracts the DC voltage from the network cable onto the 5.5mm x 2.5mm splitter jack.
At AIR802 we offer this product in two other DC connector sizes (5.5 mm x 2.1 mm) and (3.5 mm x 1.35 mm). If you have an application requiring another size, please contact our office.
As a professional engineering company, we can't specify any precise operating distance. Determining the distance in any given scenario is an electrical calculation that would require knowledge of the wire gauge being used, the input voltage and current. However it is possible to achieve up to the full length of an Ethernet network cable at 100 meters (328 feet), if for example the input voltage and current was high enough to accommodate the voltage drop. The input voltage drops over the distance of a wire and will be less at the output. Use of a larger wire size (AWG) such as 23 AWG instead of the smaller 24 AWG can allow more distance as well as can using a replacement power supply with slightly higher voltage output to compensate for any voltage drop (loss) over the length of cable.
Basic Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Information:
- Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is commonplace and very useful allowing DC power voltage to be carried through a CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 type cable.
- This eliminates the need for an AC power outlet nearby any equipment being installed in ceilings, on outside walls or other locations, where power outlets are not conveniently installed.
- Under the right conditions, i.e. with higher voltages such as 48vdc versus 5vdc then power may be carried over the 100 meter (328 feet) distance limitation of a single network cable run.
- This kit is for use with non IEEE 802.3af/at PoE or passive PoE devices.
- Voltage is applied from pins 4,5,7 and 8 (spare pairs) of the Ethernet network cable.
